Brasilia
After spending two days in crowded Sao Paulo, we decided that we had enough, so we hit the road and drove for two days to Brasilia, the Capital. We made lots of stopovers on the road, and generally had a fantastic time enjoying Brazil. Now we are in Brasilia, a very weird city where everything seems to be in a very orderly manner which is abit disconcerting. Here are a few photos of my sojourn

On friday we gathered at a friends's house to relieve the stresses of the week; it turned out to be an African continental gathering, and a welcome party for Dru, from US who is in Africa for the first time.

Hiking
Winter in Cape Town means lots of rain, but occasionally the sky is clear and then one can get a feel of the outdoors. After waiting for ages, finally on Saturday and Sunday the clouds disappeared...and I put on my hiking boots. 18Km and 7 hours later, this is what I saw

Oystercatchers
I like to refer to myself as a desktop conservation biologist, so I don't get the opportunity to go out in the field and get my feet muddy. I study natural systems through computer modeling to try and elucidate human impact on our natural resources. So when my friend Anu, asked me to be her field assistant I jumped at the opportunity.
Anu is studying Oystercatchers (a bird), so on tuesday and wednesday we mounted our giant telescopes by the beach and tried to play hide and seek with the birds.
Natually it turned out to be a perfect photo opportunity...
